Mayor Karen Bass appointed Board of Public Works president Steve Kang as the city film liaison more than two and a half years into her term. Kang will serve as chief film liaison and will be assisted by Dan Halden and producer Amy Goldberg. The liaison role helps film and TV productions navigate city bureaucracy and permitting to enable local shoots of TV shows, movies and commercials. The role was established under former Mayor Eric Garcetti. The appointment is intended to complement the expansion of the California Film & TV Tax Credit and efforts to retain production jobs amid competition from other states and countries offering stronger incentives and simpler processes.
I have full confidence that President Steve Kang will deliver in his role as City Film Liaison by finding solutions that protect our signature industry and ensure that local filming of TV shows, movies and commercials can successfully continue and expand,
With the successful expansion of the California Film & TV Tax Credit and our ongoing efforts to improve local processes, our work continues to keep production jobs here and support small businesses who rely on the industry.
