""As somebody who likes checking out different coffee shops, I thought this one was really unique," said Sneh Chawla, a Palms resident visiting Harun for the first time. "I love that it has such a community vibe.""
""We are one part of a really powerful movement to pour into this community to create commercial revitalization and beautiful spaces where we can identify ourselves," Hall said."
Harun Coffee reopened in Leimert Park with a long line of customers and design-forward furnishings, including a bi-level table and spool stools by Shin Okuda. The shop was founded by former music executive Chace Johnson in 2019 and closed in 2023 amid a trend of minority-owned businesses shuttering in the historically Black neighborhood, including Eso Won Books and Swift Cafe. Community Labs, founded by Prophet Walker and Cheron Hall, has led investment efforts to preserve the neighborhood’s identity and spur commercial revitalization. Degnan Boulevard now features ORA, Plant Chica’s relocated nursery, and Lore, a Black-owned bookstore next to Harun.
