The British Army has tested the RapidDestroyer, a microwave-based weapon, successfully neutralizing drone swarms during trials in West Wales. It disabled over 100 drones, showcasing its potential as a cost-effective alternative to traditional missile defense systems, with each blast costing only £0.10. The weapon is particularly relevant in current conflicts, like in Ukraine, where drone usage is high. Development continues alongside other technologies, contributing to heightened defense capabilities amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in Europe.
"The Army estimates that each microwave blast costs just £0.10 (€0.12), with one shot enough to take out several small UAVs from a maximum range of 1km."
"With improvements on range and power, which could come with further development, this would be a great asset to Layered Air Defence," said Sergeant Mayers.
