UK to launch cyber fraud squad in April | Computer Weekly

The UK government is establishing a new Online Crime Centre launching in April to combat cyber fraud through coordinated efforts across government, police, intelligence agencies, financial services, and technology companies. The initiative represents part of a broader £250m anti-fraud strategy running through 2029. The centre will identify and dismantle accounts, websites, and phone numbers used by organized cyber crime gangs, blocking scam texts, freezing criminal accounts, and removing fraudulent social media pages. This response addresses the scale of fraud affecting one in fourteen UK adults and a quarter of businesses annually, costing the economy approximately £14 billion. The unified approach aims to disrupt criminal operations at their source and bring perpetrators to justice.
