O2 makes major 5G expansion, deploys small cells to boost Bath capacity | Computer Weekly

O2 has expanded 5G standalone (5G+) deployment across the UK, upgrading millions of customers in over 700 towns and cities at no extra charge. This free upgrade is available to all O2 Pay Monthly customers with compatible devices purchased from 2024 onwards or eSIMs, including iPhone 15-17 and Google Pixel 9-10 series. 5G+ delivers approximately 50% faster data speeds than 4G, enhanced coverage in busy areas with more reliable performance, and improved battery life as devices no longer need simultaneous 4G and 5G connections. O2 claims this free rollout is unique among major UK operators, distinguishing it from competitors EE and Vodafone. The deployment supports Virgin Media O2's £700 million network investment strategy for 2026.
