No big changes to UK broadband, despite lack of competition
Briefly

Ofcom, the UK telecoms regulator, is pleased with the fiber broadband rollout progress, declaring that by 2027, 96% of UK households could access full-fiber connectivity. However, with only a 35% take-up rate where available, proactive measures are needed. As the Telecoms Access Review 2026 approaches, Ofcom plans to consult on regulatory proposals, choosing to keep existing rules intact due to BT's significant market power. Physical Infrastructure Access will remain essential for competition. The regulator will differentiate regulations based on competition levels across regions.
Ofcom claims the country is on course to have "full-fiber" internet connectivity available to 96 percent of homes and businesses by 2027.
The regulator is adopting a conservative approach, and not proposing to make any major changes from the rules that have been in operation for the previous five years.
