Made Smarter, a government-backed initiative, has launched a £1 million funding round to accelerate digital transformation among small and medium-sized manufacturers in the North West. Providing up to £20,000 in match-funded grants, the program aids companies in adopting technologies like AI, robotics, and IoT. Participants also receive consultancy and training to enhance skills and productivity. One beneficiary, Foams 4 Sports, increased productivity by automating processes with new machinery. This initiative has already supported 334 projects since 2018, aiming to boost regional GVA by £242 million and create 1,300 jobs.

Since its inception in 2018, Made Smarter has supported 334 technology projects across the region. These investments are forecast to boost the North West's gross value added (GVA) by £242 million.
With support from Made Smarter, the firm invested in a digital CNC machine to automate its manual cutting process-doubling productivity, cutting waste, and equipping its workforce with new skills.
