London-based Rivan, focusing on carbon utilisation, has raised £10M led by Plural to advance its technology for producing synthetic natural gas (SNG). The company aims to address the significant emissions from heavy industries like steel and cement by manufacturing modular fuel plants. These plants, powered by off-grid solar, utilize Rivan's key modules—electrolyser, direct-air-capture (DAC), and Sabatier reactors—to facilitate carbon capture and create carbon-neutral fuels. Funding will also support Rivan's research and development efforts and scale their pilot plant to 1MW.
Rivan is manufacturing vertically integrated machines in Bermondsey and deploying them to solar-powered, off-grid sites to make carbon capture economically viable and achieve optimum costs and performance.
Rivan's modular plants, powered by off-grid solar and injecting SNG into pipelines across the UK and Europe, aim to provide that solution for decarbonising heavy industry.
