Fertility startup 'rejuvenates' human eggs to boost chances of conception
Briefly

Ovo Labs, a German biotech startup, has created new technologies aimed at enhancing in vitro fertilisation (IVF) success by rejuvenating human eggs. The advancements could significantly reduce genetic errors in eggs, improving fertility outcomes for women. Co-founded by fertility expert Professor Melina Schuh and others, the company aims to expand the reproductive window for couples seeking children. Although they have demonstrated success in improving egg quality, the technology is pending regulatory approval. Recently, they secured €4.6 million in funding to move forward with their ambitious goals.
Ovo Labs aims to "dramatically" boost the number of women who can conceive in a single IVF attempt by reducing genetic errors in eggs.
"By helping to increase the number of viable eggs, we aim to extend the reproductive window, empowering more couples to have children at a time that feels right to them," said co-founder Professor Melina Schuh.
The company has shown it can successfully treat isolated human eggs, but its technology is not yet approved for human trials.
Ovo Labs has secured €4.6mn in funding to support its ambition to become standard practice in IVF, but regulatory approval may take time.
