Woman who tricked her way into men-only Magic Circle finally allowed in
Briefly

Sophie Lloyd, who was expelled from the Magic Circle for disguising herself as a man in 1991, is being granted membership after a public apology. At the time, female magicians were barred from joining, prompting Ms. Lloyd and her friend Jenny Winstanley to devise a plan for her infiltration. Lloyd created the identity of 'Raymond Lloyd,' studying the character for two years. With her efforts now honored, she will receive her membership certificate from the Magic Circle, which recently allowed women to join after her deception led to her expulsion.
"Jenny was increasingly frustrated that women, including herself, could not join the Magic Circle. She came up with an idea to infiltrate the society by having me dress as a man."
"I had to study the character for two years. I invented a new identity - Raymond Lloyd - and disguised myself with a wig, body suit and 'croaky' voice."
