Uisce Eireann commitment to address water outages in Duleek and south Drogheda welcomed
Uisce Éireann has confirmed works will start next month to address increasing water outages affecting Duleek and south Drogheda. The planned work includes replacing approximately 2,900 metres of an existing 300mm AC trunk main that runs from the service reservoir at Staleen to Duleek Business Park. Recurring outages have created significant burdens for residents and businesses, especially over the past year, and have caused frustration and concern. The situation is particularly difficult for senior citizens. The planned upgrade also involves 8km of faulty trunk watermain between the Staleen Water Treatment Plant and Duleek. Assurances are being sought on urgency and on plans to maintain supply during disruptions while works are carried out.
"Significant works are proposed, including the replacement of approximately 2,900 metres of the existing 300mm AC trunk main. The trunk watermain extends from the service reservoir at Staleen to Duleek Business Park."
"Recurring outages in the Duleek and south Drogheda areas had become a serious burden for residents and businesses, particularly over the last year. Reliable access to water is a basic necessity for everyone and the ongoing issues are causing considerable frustration and concern amongst local people."
"It is particularly difficult for our senior citizens. I am happy that we will soon see progress. I am asking Meath County Council to seek assurances that the work will be carried out as a matter of urgency."
"He added that the planned upgrade of 8km of faulty trunk watermain between the Staleen Water Treatment Plant and Duleek needed to be delivered urgently to tackle the frequent supply issues in East Meath. We also need to see what plans there are to cover supply during disruptions during the works."
