Two private schools in London, Park Hill and Falcons School, have closed due to the introduction of a 20% VAT on school fees. The VAT hike caused a significant decrease in pupil numbers, prompting Park Hill to relocate its students to a sister school. Falcons School had warned parents of its likely closure, stating financial losses and declining enrolments over the past two years. With around 100 private schools predicted to close due to the VAT increase, the landscape for private education in England is changing rapidly.
Amit Mehta stated that the strategic decision to relocate pupils from Park Hill to Westbury House reflects a need for fresh opportunities amidst facing financial challenges.
Falcons School highlighted that it has been loss-making and struggled with an enrollment rate below 50%, exacerbated by the VAT increase introduced by the government.
