A toilet roll thief has been taking toilet paper from public facilities in Youghal, an east Cork beach resort. Council staff clean the toilets and restock toilet paper around 7.30am, but the rolls vanish within hours, sometimes within 30 minutes. The thefts upset beach users who rely on the facilities and create inconvenience for individuals and families, especially those with children. People with specific medical conditions are also affected. The mayor has appealed for the thefts to stop and asked the public to help identify the person responsible. Council staff have monitored the toilets without finding anything to identify the raider, and Gardaí have increased patrols around the area.
"Each morning, council staff clean the toilets and ensure they are fully stocked with toilet paper. The front stand toilets are checked and stocked around 7.30am. However, within hours, all the toilet rolls vanish. In one case, the toilet rolls vanished just 30 minutes after they had been restocked."
"Councillor Mary Linehan-Foley said the actions of the individual were causing upset to those who use the east Cork town's picturesque beach and rely on the public facilities. The thefts have caused distress and incovenience for both individuals and families. It has proved a particular issue for families with children who rely on the public facilities while at the beach."
""In winter there is no issue at all," she explained. "But once the good weather arrives, the toilet rolls disappear almost immediately." She said the thefts have caused distress and incovenience for both individuals and families."
"Council staff have monitored the toilets involved but, so far, nothing has been obtained which might identify the toilet roll raider. Gardaí have been made aware of the issue and have increased patrols around the imp"
