"temporary nature of the continued use of the site for allotments"
Richmond Council proposes extending Teddington Cemetery onto the Shacklegate Lane allotments to meet urgent demand for burial spaces. The extension would provide about 616 new burial spaces; the cemetery is due to reach capacity within a year and the new plots would be filled in around 30 years. Borough officers said the council would still meet its target number of allotments and that alternative arrangements would be made for current users, citing a 1993 approval that indicated the temporary nature of allotment use. The planning report recommends approval despite almost 60 objections citing high allotment demand and long waiting lists.
