Residents fear that a 24-hour McDonald's would exacerbate late-night crime and antisocial behavior in the area. Local activists, including Dick Bower of Friends of Wimbledon Town, argue it will attract heavy drinkers and disrupt the neighborhood. Objections were raised about increased noise and litter, particularly in peak hours between 2am and 5am. Merton Council's licensing team proposed conditions, such as installing a CCTV system, to mitigate concerns, but community groups remain skeptical.
This McDonald's, right in the heart of the area, would be perfectly placed to serve heavy drinkers experiencing the munchies. Fights may arise as a result of antagonism between the patrons of the different drinking establishments.
The extended hours would turn McDonald's into a late-night hub for revellers leaving pubs and clubs. Drunkenness inevitably leads to rowdiness and noise, all of which will disturb nearby residents.
