Starmer: Trump's 'Sharia' claim to UN is nonsense
""You saw from the state visit last week that there are plenty of things on which the president and I agree, and we are working together. "There are some issues on which we disagree, and what the president said about the mayor, who's doing a really good job, in fact driving down serious crime, what he said about the introduction of Sharia law was ridiculous nonsense.""
""Now they want to go to Sharia law. But you are in a different country, you can't do that,""
""living rent-free inside Donald Trump's head""
The prime minister called the US president's claim that London wants to "go to Sharia law" "ridiculous nonsense" and expressed support for Mayor Sadiq Khan. He said he and the US president agree on many issues following a recent state visit but disagreed on the president's comments about the mayor and Sharia law. The prime minister praised the mayor's record in reducing serious crime and said he was proud that a Muslim leads a diverse city. Sadiq Khan labelled the president "racist, sexist, misogynistic and Islamophobic" and said the president appeared to be "living rent-free" in his head. A cabinet minister rejected the Sharia claim and affirmed that British law applies.
