"The memorial would feature a 5ft 9in (1.8m) tall bronze statue of a Sikh soldier on a padstone surrounded by three steps. An engraving on the stone would honour the 'Sikh soldiers of the British Indian army who fought in the two World Wars', attributed to the Sikh Soldier Organisation."
"More than 83,000 Sikh soldiers died fighting for the British Empire in World War One and World War Two. The memorial would also pay tribute to the 1897 Battle of Saragarhi, considered by some military historians as one of history's great last-stands."
A war memorial honoring Sikh soldiers from the British Indian Army is proposed for Southall Manor House Grounds in west London. The project, estimated at £2 million, is led by the British Sikh Association and Tory peer Lord Rami Ranger. The memorial will feature a 5ft 9in bronze statue of a Sikh soldier and an engraving recognizing the contributions of Sikh soldiers in World Wars and the 1897 Battle of Saragarhi. The plans are currently under consultation until April 28.
