In a tense and competitive race, Healy showcased her tenacity and skill, especially during the final lap, to narrowly secure victory over two Australian rivals. Despite being momentarily hindered, she regained her position and surged ahead in the last 40 meters. Healy expressed satisfaction with her performance, highlighting her recent achievement in the 3km and her confidence in aiming for a personal best in the 1500m. Meanwhile, Cathal Doyle achieved a significant personal best in the men's 1500m, qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics, further marking a successful evening for Irish athletics.
I'm obviously really happy to come away with the win. It was a really competitive field... I thought it wouldn't be crazy quick and it was quite crowded.
I know my shape is good, I ran a big 3km PB two weeks ago so... especially on the home straight.
Doyle clocked a big personal best of 3:32.15 in the men's 1500m... it makes him the eighth Irish individual athlete to qualify for Tokyo.
I'm having a lot of fun which is the main thing, and it's probably why I'm running so well.
