"Battersea Dogs Home might be offered a tempting sum by Cruella de Vil to rehome stray Dalmatians, but legally they would have to refuse. No comparison is intended with the new preferred bidders - but the principle stands: not everything is, or should be, for sale."
"The City of London Corporation has said the retendering process was launched to ensure the cafes continue to deliver "a high-quality visitor experience"."
More than 12,000 people signed a petition calling for north London park cafes to be saved after the City of London Corporation named Daisy Green as preferred operator for four sites. The affected cafes are at Queen's Park, Golders Hill Park, Parliament Hill Lido and Parliament Hill Fields, with Highgate Wood still under review. Hoxton Beach director Patrick Matthews launched the petition, paused the takeover and initiated a legal challenge, accusing the Corporation of running a commercial exercise to raise money. Longstanding operators and supporters say they have strong local backing. The Corporation stated the retendering aims to ensure a high-quality visitor experience.
