The City of London stands out with a staggering 75 CCTV cameras per 1000 inhabitants, significantly exceeding the average of 13 for Greater London. This dense concentration is attributed to its small area and the presence of important landmarks. Despite being the 12th most surveilled city globally, with a surprising lack of correlation between surveillance and crime rates, issues concerning safety and privacy persist in this heavily monitored urban environment.
It's estimated that there are nearly 130,000 public CCTV cameras across the capital kitted out and ready to observe, but some places are more populated by them than others.
The City of London has just over 75 cameras per 1000 people, significantly more than the average across Greater London, which is only 13 for every 1000.
