Police reveal new super-fast e-bikes putting the brakes on phone snatchers in London
Briefly

Police in London have introduced high-speed e-bikes to combat phone theft, capable of reaching 50mph in just 3.6 seconds. These bikes, marked with police logos and equipped with lights and sirens, aim to deter criminals who previously used similar bikes for escaping. Commander Umer Khan stated the goal is to make the city less welcoming for criminals. There has been a reported 30% reduction in phone theft since January, attributed to increased visibility and community policing efforts, including patrols and CCTV support, demonstrating a proactive approach to public safety.
The electric fleet will differ from offenders' bikes by having distinctive force logos, flashing lights and sirens, making them easily identifiable in pursuit situations.
