Pins holding Molly Malone statue in place destroyed 'from the abuse she receives on a daily basis'
Briefly

Dublin City Council is initiating restoration work on the Molly Malone statue following ongoing damage caused by tourist groping. An expert report revealed that two fixing pins supporting the statue were damaged due to frequent touching. The council is seeking to not only repair the structural integrity of the statue but also restore its aesthetic damage, particularly on its bronze cleavage area. Conservation specialists will conduct necessary work to ensure the statue remains stable while exploring long-term solutions to reduce future damage.
The statue has been subject to damage in its patination several times over the years resulting from repeated touching of the statue. We are working on a more long-term solution.
The two fixing pins below her body have come loose or have cracked. As a matter of urgency, these pins need to be rewelded or replaced.
