The City of London Corporation has proposed to subdivide a large flat at the Old Bailey into two bedrooms to provide accommodation for staff overseeing the court's operations. Currently, the dedicated flat is occupied by judges, leaving staff without proper housing. The plan includes a shared shower room and built-in furniture to enhance usability and comfort. This change is designed to make better use of the flat without compromising the building's historical significance, ensuring that court operations continue smoothly.
The alteration is also taking place in the least important part of the building from a historic perspective. All five flats in the Old Bailey are used for operational purposes, with none of them let out commercially.
According to the proposal, the living room is to be subdivided into two bedrooms, with a full shower room between them. 'Both bedrooms are proposed [to] have built-in furniture to allow for storage, double bed sleeping and spaces for work,' the application stated.
