Sarah Everard, 33, was murdered in 2021 by Wayne Couzens, a serving Metropolitan Police officer, while walking home in south London. Baroness Louise Casey, who chaired an independent report into the Met Police's conduct following the murder, stated that while some progress has been made, it remains inadequate. She questioned whether police are conducting thorough self-examination to prevent similar tragedies. In 2024-25, 28 Met staff were dismissed for sexual misconduct, with 39 additional officers resigning or retiring before dismissal.
