New tool created to help clumsy cows stop falling into river
Briefly

To enhance the safety of grazing cows in central Cambridge, special GPS collars equipped with virtual fence technology have been introduced. These collars utilize solar-powered GPS along with an app to create virtual boundaries for the animals. When cows approach these boundaries, they receive audio warnings that escalate in pitch, teaching them to turn back. If they continue towards the boundary, a mild electric pulse is administered. The collars aim to reduce incidents where cows mistakenly fall into the river, a problem reported to average 2-4 occurrences each grazing season.
