Dimitri Moses was Tasered on 10 July 2021 in Nottingham after running away from officers he believed would beat him up. He was celebrating his 34th birthday at a bar with two friends when staff asked them to leave for breaching Covid social distancing rules. Moses’s legal claim says security staff threatened his friend, prompting the friend to speak to three police officers outside. Legal documents name PC Butler, who allegedly pushed Moses across the street toward a shop window captured on CCTV. Moses said Butler put a hand on his throat and pushed him against a wall, then Moses began counting to 10, which his solicitor said provoked Butler. The claim states all three officers surrounded Moses and two grabbed his arms, after which Moses ran and officers chased him, leading to the Taser injury and a fractured spine. Nottinghamshire Police denied the account and said the settlement would offer comfort to Moses.
"A man who was seriously injured when he was wrongfully Tasered by police while celebrating his birthday has been given 30,000 in damages."
"Under Covid regulations at the time, bars were only allowed to open on the condition that customers ordered and consumed their drinks while sitting down."
