A man has been arrested in Crawley after attacking three police officers during an attempted arrest, resulting in significant injuries. The incident occurred at Gossops Drive when officers approached the suspect, who then fled to a nearby property. Following successful negotiation efforts, the 43-year-old man was apprehended and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. All officers involved were hospitalized for their injuries. Sussex Police emphasize the unacceptable nature of violence against emergency workers and seek public assistance for any information related to the incident.
Violence towards emergency workers is absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Police officers put themselves at risk to protect the public, but they should not expect to be assaulted.
I would like to commend these three officers for their bravery, and they will receive the full support of our police service while they recover.
Enquiries are ongoing to understand exactly what has happened in this incident. My plea is for any information or relevant video footage to be shared with us.
