Broadcaster Brendan Courtney was walking home along the quays around 9:30pm on February 27, 2025, when he was beckoned over to a car stopped at traffic lights. A passenger in the vehicle appeared to call him over while he was carrying shopping bags. Courtney was then assaulted and punched multiple times, sustaining a concussion and a fractured eye socket. The man responsible for the assault voluntarily contacted gardaí to report his involvement in the incident. The case was heard at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
