Man arrested over 2021 bedroom killing of teenager
"This latest arrest demonstrates our commitment to this investigation, almost five years after Camron's death. We remain dedicated to securing justice for the victim and their family."
"A group 'effectively hunting as a pack' had hijacked a minicab to look for rival gang members following a different stabbing earlier that evening. After entering two other properties, they kicked down the door to Camron's home."
"Johnson told the court she had stood with her arms outstretched to protect her son and had tried to grab a 16-inch (40cm) 'zombie knife' from one of the attackers. Camron was fatally stabbed in the struggle that followed."
Camron Smith, 16, was fatally stabbed in his home on Bracken Avenue, Shrublands, on 1 July 2021 after a group of men forced entry while hunting for rival gang members. His mother, Audrey Johnson, attempted to protect him during the attack. Four men have been convicted: Romain La Pierre received life with a 28-year minimum for murder and robbery, Jordan Tcheuko and Romario Gordon received 15 and 13 years respectively for manslaughter, and James Olanipekun received eight years for manslaughter and robbery. A 26-year-old man was arrested in Croydon on Friday and remains in custody. Police continue seeking two additional suspects and remain committed to securing justice for the victim and family.
