"The Irish Independent understands that the most serious offence involves the alleged sexual assault of a young girl. In two other incidents in that same time period but on different dates, other young children reported being approached by a male acting suspiciously, but no physical assaults occurred."
"Due to the nature of the alleged offences detectives attached to Divisional Protective Services Bureaus were involved. These units, based in every division across the country, investigate both crimes of a sexual nature and offences involving minors."
Specialist detectives investigated three separate incidents occurring in February in the Dublin 3 area. One incident involved the alleged sexual assault of a young girl, while two other incidents involved suspicious approaches to children with no physical contact. Plain clothed patrols were conducted following the incidents, and CCTV footage was recovered to identify the suspect. Gardaí arrested a male in his 20s in the Santry area on March 10, 2026, who is being questioned in relation to all three incidents. The Divisional Protective Services Units, which investigate sexual crimes and offences involving minors, led the investigation. The suspect can be held for up to 24 hours before being charged or released.
