Lady Mayor show: What is the time and route for the first of its kind?
"I'm deeply honoured to have been elected to this office, and to be leading the first ever Lady Mayor's Show, said Dame Susan. To see so many people join the parade is an extraordinary moment, one that celebrates the City's long-standing traditions and puts the spotlight on so many of the good causes that we support for the benefit of the City and the UK."
"The event is the oldest civic procession in the world, bringing together around 7,000 participants, 200 horses, and over 50 decorated floats along a three-mile procession. The show aims to capture a snapshot of the Square Mile, or the City of London, featuring a wide variety of cultural influences. Dame Susan is the third woman to hold the position and is leading the first event renamed the Lady Mayor's Show. Around 7,000 participants, 200 horses and more than 50 decorated floats will form a three-mile procession showcasing the City of London. The parade features military bands, livery companies, corporate floats, community groups, charities and overseas organisations, reflecting diverse cultural influences within the Square Mile. The procession starts at the Mansion House, travels to the Royal Courts of Justice where the Mayor will swear an Oath of Allegiance, and returns along the same route. The event is free to attend, attracts about 350,000 spectators and will be broadcast on BBC One.
