Kennington skatepark secures over 500,000 for restoration
"We, and the whole skateboarding community, are thrilled that the council has decided to honour their promise to restore Kennington Park's iconic skatebowl. There's still a long way to go, but we're very much looking forward to working with the council to get the project back on track."
"The funding, worth 566,000, has now been included in next year's Capital Investment and was agreed by Cabinet at a meeting earlier this month."
Kennington Park's skate park, known as Kenny, is set for restoration with over £500,000 funding from Lambeth Council. The skatebowl had deteriorated due to foundation movement and tree root distortion. A petition with over 2,500 signatures, supported by Skateboard GB, urged the council to fulfill its restoration promise. Friends of Kennington Park expressed excitement about the funding and the potential for project progress in the upcoming financial year, with hopes for contractor negotiations and site work to commence soon.
