Ruth Miller, a 71-year-old volunteer at Mavrovouni refugee camp in Lesbos, Greece, has transformed a former bike repair workshop into a multilingual library with 2,500 books. Originally from London, she imparted her communication skills from her civil service background to support refugees. While enjoying her role, she acknowledges the challenges it poses. Miller focuses on providing literature in various languages to cater to the diverse backgrounds of the refugees, promoting education and cultural exchange through reading, including children's favorites related to football.
"It's not quite what I had in mind entering my eighth decade but it's a new challenge and I'm loving it most of the time, although some days it's exhausting."
"The library contains 2,500 books, many in English, although Miller is always trying to source more books in Farsi, Arabic, Turkish for adults."
