Greenwich Council is moving towards prohibiting ice cream vans from operating on King William Walk, adjacent to Greenwich Park, with a decision pending at a full council meeting. This follows a legal challenge by ice cream operator Paul St Hilaire Sr, who argued the council's earlier decision lacked legal backing. Following a court ruling, the council re-ran a public consultation, which showed a majority favoring the ban. The issue has drawn significant attention and considerable expenses for the council amidst residents' complaints about disturbances.
Last week, Greenwich Council recommended King William Walk as a prohibited street for ice cream vans, highlighting ongoing disputes that have cost taxpayers thousands.
Cllr Jackie Smith noted that complaints from residents were significant in justifying the council's desire to prohibit ice cream trading in King William Walk.
