Historic sports and social club to reopen two months after sudden closure

The May & Baker Sports and Social Club closed on February 3, following financial difficulties intensified by the Covid pandemic. This left the community deeply saddened, as it had been a part of local life for around 80 years. After the club's closure, Barking and Dagenham Council appointed liquidators, but has since secured a temporary operator, London-East UK Business and Technical Park (LEUK), to manage the site. The council aims to facilitate the return of existing and new sports clubs while plotting the long-term strategy for the facilities.
