The original Bramley tree, over 200 years old, is the first source from which millions of Bramley saplings were grown worldwide. It was sown by Mary Ann Brailsford in the garden of her parents’ home on Church Street, Southwell, Nottinghamshire, between 1809 and 1815. Campaigners sought to buy the cottage from Nottingham Trent University to keep public access and create a heritage and educational site. Artist Dan Llywelyn Hall said the university informed him the garden was bought privately by owners of a neighbouring cottage. The campaign raised £14,000 from more than 320 donations globally. Nottingham Trent University said it is supporting the new custodians with advice and that custodianship has passed to Bramley Tree Cottage owners, Joshua and Ali.
"On Friday, Llywelyn Hall was informed by the university that the garden in which the Mother Bramley resides had been bought privately by the owners of a neighbouring cottage."
