Barrow Hill Junior School, Robinsfield Infant School, and George Eliot Primary School in St John's Wood, along with two Catholic schools, are set to merge due to issues such as falling pupil numbers and increasing financial deficits. Preparations aim for the amalgamation by September, despite 83% of parents opposing the merger during consultations. The recent petition claiming inadequate evidence for the merger will be presented to Westminster City Council. The move is prompted by a decreasing birth rate and funding challenges linked to per-pupil financial models in the UK education sector.
Making this change now - before we might be forced to due to budget pressures - keeps the future in our community's hands, allowing it to be shaped by our collective choices and preferences.
A consultation on the plans for Barrow Hill, Robinsfield and George Eliot indicated 83 per cent of respondents either 'tend to disagree' or 'disagree' with the merger.
