Approximately 70 parents and children participated in a 'daffodil ride' to promote a healthier community environment in Dartmouth Park. The initiative, organized by resident Sakhr Al-Makhadhi, aims to reduce traffic and create safer spaces for pedestrians and cyclists. Many participants expressed the joy and safety of cycling in a group while pushing for changes that prioritize residents over commuters. However, the plan faces criticism from some local groups, who fear it will result in increased traffic and pollution on adjacent roads, highlighting the ongoing divide in community perspectives on urban mobility.
This was about residents taking back control of our streets - telling the rat runners that we deserve to enjoy our space and play, walk, cycle, and talk to each other.
Dartmouth Park should be for community, not commuters.
It was such a joyful, safe and inspiring community event - which showed how easy and possible it could be for kids to ride round their neighbourhood safely.
We don't cycle nearly as much as we could as it's so stressful shepherding young kids on busy roads. It was such a happy feeling to know our kids are safe.
