"Fawehinmi is a violent bully, who preyed on vulnerable people to exploit them for his own gain. Dimitrios was a frail man who did not pose a threat to Fawehinmi. His initial claim in police interview that he acted in self-defence is utterly preposterous, and the words of a coward."
"The body of 55-year-old Dimitrios Tsavdaris was found in a foetal position inside a "cuckoo" flat in Hackney, after weeks of sustained violent attacks. He had suffered multiple fractures to his ribs, face and breastbone, as well as both old and new bleeding on the brain and a range of internal injuries."
"The practice, known as cuckooing, involves criminals exploiting vulnerable people by occupying their homes for illegal activity. Fawehinmi, a drug dealer, had taken over the Hackney property as a base for dealing."
Bamidele Fawehinmi, a 33-year-old drug dealer, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and causing grievous bodily harm in the death of 55-year-old Dimitrios Tsavdaris. Tsavdaris, a frail and vulnerable former chef, was found dead in a foetal position in a Hackney flat on 29 January 2024 after weeks of sustained violent attacks. The flat was being used as a "cuckoo" property for drug dealing operations. Tsavdaris had suffered multiple fractures to his ribs, face, and breastbone, along with internal injuries and brain bleeding. He had been transported between the Hackney flat and Fawehinmi's Essex home, where he allegedly slept on a mattress in a garage. Fawehinmi claimed self-defence, which investigators described as preposterous. He will be sentenced on 8 May.
