CCTV cameras for Leicester Square, Soho and Chinatown to spot more phone snatchers and drug dealers
Briefly

Over 30 new CCTV cameras will be installed in the West End, enhancing surveillance to deter phone snatchers and drug dealers. This initiative, costing over £500,000, is part of a larger £2 million security upgrade to improve safety for families and tourists at night through the council's After Dark strategy. The network will grow from 100 to 200 cameras, with additional installations planned for Soho, Leicester Square, and Chinatown, all monitored 24/7 to effectively target hotspots of anti-social behaviour.
"We want people to enjoy our fabulous West End but without the misery of mobile phone theft, pickpocketing, watches being stolen or running into aggressive behaviour."
"With these cameras going up over the summer, we are delivering against the commitments of Westminster after Dark."
