In a ruling against Westminster Council, a judge described the loud and repetitive performances by buskers as a form of psychological torture. Global Radio, which took the council to court, highlighted issues where staff had to work in cupboards to escape the noise. Residents reported severe disturbances, with one owner stating that his children were unable to sleep due to the racket. The judge criticized the council for their failure to effectively respond to numerous complaints about the disruptive sound environment caused by these 'industrially amplified daily concerts.'
The judge noted the issue was exacerbated by both the volume of noise and the repetitive, poor quality of some performances, likening it to psychological torture.
Resident Fadil Maqedonci expressed that the incessant repetition of loud music is impacting lives, as his children cannot sleep and his home remains a noise prison.
