British MP Patrick Spencer charged with sexual assaults at London art world haunt The Groucho
Briefly

British MP Patrick Spencer has been charged with two counts of sexual assault involving two women at The Groucho, a London members' club. The incidents occurred in August 2023, and Spencer is slated to appear in court on June 16. Following the charges, the Conservative Party has suspended him and withdrawn the whip. Notably, these charges are separate from ongoing investigations regarding a rape allegation at the same venue from November 2022, which led to the club's temporary closure. Artfarm, managing The Groucho, maintains that it operates independently from Hauser & Wirth.
A Conservative Party spokesman told the BBC that Spencer had been suspended. "We have taken immediate action," they said. "Patrick Spencer MP has been suspended from the Conservative Party, and the whip withdrawn..."
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told The Art Newspaper that Spencer's charges are unrelated to accusations of a "serious criminal offence" at the Groucho that resulted in the club having its license suspended in November.
