"the largest community operated and owned farm in the United Kingdom"
"its the only rehab facility [for horses] of its kind in the UK"
"cast iron protection from development"
"Looking at those accolades, most boroughs I would think in London would be proud to have such an area and they would celebrate it. Unfortunately. In the financial crisis Greenwich"
Greenwich Council decided to dispose of Greenwich Equestrian Centre to raise funds to fill a budget gap after the venue closed earlier in the year. The £1.6m centre, opened 12 years ago, faces possible sale on the open market which could end its current equestrian and conservation uses. Local campaigners, led by Dr Barry Gray of Woodlands Farm Trust and Tao Baker of the Greenwich Equestrian Community Group, seek to buy and protect the site. Campaigners presented a 3,500-signature petition and highlighted the centre’s Olympic legacy, Metropolitan Open Land status, site of metropolitan importance and nature conservation value.
