"More than 200 council homes are set to be built at Battersea Power Station by 2029 as part of its 9 billion regeneration. The council has now exchanged contracts with the developer so it can provide the homes to families on its waiting list once they are built. The authority has bought a long-term lease on the land, lasting for hundreds of years, which is owned by BPSDC as freeholder."
"The authority had previously fiercely criticised the redevelopment, which was approved under Tory control, for only agreeing to build 386 affordable homes, or nine per cent, of roughly 4,000 homes. Labour councillors turned down an invitation to attend the opening of the restored Grade II* listed power station in 2022, after taking control of the council, and applied increasing pressure on the developer to deliver more affordable homes."
More than 200 council homes will be delivered at Battersea Power Station by 2029 as part of a 9 billion regeneration. Wandsworth Council has exchanged contracts with the developer and purchased a long-term lease on the BPSDC-owned land to provide the homes to families on its waiting list. A planning application has been submitted and will be viewable on the council website next week, with a final decision expected in March to allow quick progress. If approved, the additional homes will raise the scheme's affordable housing contribution to 15 per cent. The waiting list contained 11,183 households last March, including 3,771 homeless households.
