The Long Dark Tunnel exhibition in Piccadilly was abruptly closed due to anti-monarchy graffiti that appeared on the property. Created by graffiti artist 10Foot, the exhibition gained attention through a special Big Issue edition featuring an interview with Banksy. Despite the exhibition's positive recognition, 10Foot criticized the closure as a demonstration of power dynamics, expressing frustration at being treated as antisocial and feeling victimized. This incident raises important questions about the treatment and engagement of street artists within societal and political contexts.
It's the same old story: we're treated as antisocial idiots and they won't engage in dialogue with us when we do something widely recognised as positive. Getting bullied by the powerful really makes you feel like a fox being chased by the hunt.
Graffiti provided me with an outlet and an escape from my crime-ridden ends. The prison is real when you grow up in them ends, so graffiti saved me from longer prison sentences, sh** mental health.
