"Plans for a new London Overground station at Surrey Canal Road have moved forward a bit after Lewisham Council approved additional funding to get the station built. The station on the Overground's Windrush line would serve the local area and a new housing development being built around the Millwall football ground. Although not included when the Overground was extended to Clapham Junction, passive provision was left to ensure the station could be added later."
"That would then unlock the remaining 2,900 homes. Due to the delays with the station build, Transport for London ( TfL) has previously agreed to amend the Grampian restriction so that it applies from when construction of the station starts, not when it is completed. That allows the developer to push on with building new houses while the station is being built at the same time."
Lewisham Council approved additional funding to advance construction of a Surrey Canal Road London Overground station on the Windrush line. The station will serve the local area and housing development around the Millwall football ground; passive provision was left during the Clapham Junction extension to enable a later addition. A Grampian condition would have paused development at 600 homes until the station was built, unlocking a further 2,900 homes. TfL amended the Grampian restriction to apply from station construction start, allowing housebuilding to continue while the station is built. TfL has secured two section 106 contributions (around £25m and £1m) but a funding gap remains; TfL is seeking further funding and finalising designs before a government submission.
