Wolf Alice has announced a new album titled The Clearing, set for release on August 29 via RCA. The album's lead single, 'Bloom Baby Bloom,' emphasizes the performance aspect of rock while exploring themes of womanhood. The band recorded the album in Los Angeles with producer Greg Kurstin and wrote it in London. Lead singer Ellie Rowsell expressed her desire to focus on her voice rather than the guitar, aiming to challenge traditional perceptions of female rock musicians.
I wanted a rock song, to focus on the performance element of a rock song and sing like Axl Rose, but to be singing a song about being a woman.
I've used the guitar as a shield in the past, playing it has perhaps been some way to reject the 'girl singer in band' trope, but I wanted to focus on my voice as a rock instrument.
