Wexford Youth group announce plans for three-night celebration of Traveller culture
The Ferns Diocesan Youth Service plans a three-night celebration of Traveller culture, identity, music, and storytelling. The Traveller Pride Music Festival 2026 will feature entertainment inspired by the legacy and music of Pecker Dunne, with performances at 6:30 each evening. Events will take place at FDYS Enniscorthy on Monday May 25, FDYS Bunclody on Wednesday May 27, and FDYS New Ross (Shambles) on Friday May 29. Tickets are available through Robbie Sludds, FDYS senior project worker. Each night includes an open mic session inviting participation from all ages so voices within the Traveller community can be heard and celebrated. The festival is part of Traveller Pride 2026 and reflects ongoing commitment to inclusion and promotion of Traveller culture and identity.
"The Ferns Diocesan Youth Service (FDYS) have announced plans for a three-night celebration of Traveller culture, identity, music and storytelling, saying it will bring communities together through traditional song and live performances and highlight the resilience of Traveller heritage."
"A special highlight of the Traveller Pride Music Festival 2026 will be entertainment across all three nights inspired by the legacy and music of Pecker Dunne, whose contribution to Irish Traveller music and culture continues to inspire generations."
"In addition to the scheduled performances, audience members will be invited to participate in an open mic session each evening. The open mic aims to encourage participation from all ages and provide an opportunity for voices within the Traveller community to be heard and celebrated."
"“Traveller Pride is an important opportunity to celebrate the strength, creativity, and traditions of the County Wexford Traveller community. Through music and shared cultural experiences, this festival will create a space for pride, connection, and celebration for everyone involved,” added Kieran O'Donohoe, FDYS chief executive."
