The Kalamazoo Klub, founded in 1995 by two music enthusiasts in North London and inspired by American musical heritage, marks its 30th birthday this year. Originally based at The King's Head, the club now resides in the Great Northern Railway Tavern. Throughout its history, it has showcased numerous renowned artists. Co-founder Guy Simpson expresses the club's evolution from a folk-centered space to a broader music venue, offering various genres and fostering community. The format typically features their house band, The Blinkin' Buzzards, alongside guest artists, creating a unique platform for acoustic music.
"We wanted to broaden the outlook from folk. It started as a community club and for years we were downstairs at the King's Head, but since Covid we have a nice upstairs room at a lovely pub the Railway Tavern."
"It's worked brilliantly, we built up our connections and a regular following although we do a lot of promoting to bring audiences in," adds Guy, a former journalist for The Independent who plays resophonic guitar.
