Paul McCartney Performs Three Songs on SNL in First Appearance in 14 Years
Paul McCartney returned to Saturday Night Live as the musical guest for the first time in 14 years, closing out the show’s 51st season. He performed “Days We Left Behind” from his upcoming album The Boys of Dungeon Lane, then played The Wings’ classic “Band on the Run.” He added a rare third song during the closing credits, performing “Coming Up” from McCartney II. Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers accompanied him on drums for all three performances. McCartney also appeared in comedy segments during the cold open with Smith and host Will Ferrell, and he played a car mechanic in a sketch alongside Ferrell and Marcello Hernandez. This marked his fifth time as musical guest overall.
"Sir Paul McCartney made his long overdue return to Saturday Night Live, making his first musical guest appearance in 14 years to close out the show's 51st season. Macca first performed “Days We Left Behind” from his upcoming album The Boys of Dungeon Lane (out May 29th), before returning to the stage to run through The Wings' classic “Band on the Run.” He then delivered a rare third song during the closing credits, playing “Coming Up” from his solo album McCartney II."
"Accompanying him on drums for all three performances was Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers. The ever-charming McCartney also indulged in a bit of comedy: he appeared alongside Smith and host Will Ferrell during the cold open, and also had played a car mechanic in a sketch alongside Ferrell and Marcello Hernandez."
"Sunday marked McCartney's first turn as SNL 's musical guest in 14 years (not counting his appearances on the show's 40th and 50th anniversary specials), and his fifth time overall."
